WELCOME

Welcome to the Joan Harris Centre, the most recognized dance studio in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Our school emphasizes on the health and welfare of our dancers, build self esteem and operates with a “family first” philosophy. Our five full-school productions a season, excellent professional staff, large facility and community involvement is why we are regional school with students coming from five different counties of NEPA to train at our studio. We invite you to explore this site in order to get to know us better and then perhaps give us a call. We can’t wait to hear from you.

DANCE
CLASSES

Classes at the Joan Harris Centre are decidedly structured and designed to help each dancer reach his or her maximum potential.

Class size is limited to ensure a low student to teacher ratio. To keep classes consistent and organized, each student is evaluated by one of a select group of instructors and then placed in a class according to several criteria including; age, skill level, training and maturity.

Are your ready for some Halloween fun? Do you like it spooky or kooky? Well, we have you covered this weekend. Joan Harris Centre’s 38th annual Halloween production titled "A Crazy and Creepy Halloween Party" is scheduled for Saturday, October 19th and Sunday October 20th Dallas Performing Arts Center on the campus of the Dallas High School. Characters and costumes of all sorts and styles will be strutting their stuff as ghosts and goblins, cats and cowboys, in what can best be described as a musical Halloween parade. The annual October production is an opportunity for the centre’s students to become mythical creatures, storybook characters and animals of every shape and color. Fairy dancers, silly skeletons and musical monsters will all combine their talents in these performances designed to be enjoyed by “trick-or-treaters” of every age.

Focusing on the fun aspects of the season, the three fast paced performances will feature over 400 dancers from all across Northeastern Pennsylvania performing a wide variety of ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and hip hop routines all set in a musical motif for the holiday.

Halloween is an enchanted holiday that conjures up illusions of the supernatural. A fairy tale time filled with imaginary characters that run the gambit from to good, to the bad to the bizarre. It is exactly this premise that the production is built upon. The performance is divided into three separate acts. Highlighting this year’s Halloween show will be an original dance treatment to the popular movie “The Nightmare Before Christmas”.

To keep a real balance to shows, and to add a little "trick" to what is mostly “treat”, the production will include a few haunting works such as "Disturbia", ‘I’ve Got a Secret” and “Pax Deorum.”

The music is fun, the sets are grand, and you’ll see every kind of creature imaginable in a dance production that makes for a great show to bring your “little monsters” to. The productions are scheduled for Saturday, October 19th at 1:00 and 5:00 PM with a matinee on Sunday, October 20th at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $11 in advance and as always, children aged 5 and under are free. For more information on “A Crazy and Creepy Halloween Party!" or upcoming events at the centre, call 570- 287-7977 or visit the school’s web page at www.joanharriscentre.com.
